Your Guide to Going Solar
What is Solar ATAP Malaysia?
ATAP stands for "Skim Atap" - literally "roof scheme" in Malay. It's the government's way of making rooftop solar accessible to everyone. Unlike the old NEM program where you had to compete for limited slots each year, ATAP has no quota. You can apply any day, any month - first come, first served with guaranteed approval if you meet the requirements.
Here's how it works in practice: your solar panels generate electricity during the day. You use what you need (this saves you the most money), and whatever's left over goes to TNB's grid. TNB then credits your bill - RM0.27-0.37 per kWh for homes, market rates for businesses. Most of our customers see their electricity bills drop from RM500+ to under RM50 within the first month.
Self-Consumption First
Generate clean electricity and use it directly in your home or business. Every kWh you consume from your panels is a kWh you don't pay TNB for.
Export Credits at Market Rates
Residential users receive RM0.27-0.37/kWh for exports. Commercial users earn credits at the System Marginal Price (SMP), typically RM0.20-0.44/kWh.
Battery Storage with GITA Tax Incentive
Add battery storage to maximize self-consumption. Businesses can claim 100% Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA) on qualifying solar and battery equipment.
